In this time of seemingly infinite possibilities, what excites me most is human potential and seeing people take themselves to another level.
It seems as though at the time that we're in we could do so much and yet most people living in bodies that they don't really feel proud of and that's something I’ve wanted to do something about for a long time.
I went to university and studied exercise science and when I got there I saw that it was actually not that complicated for us to make a big change and that led to frustration.
So what I want to talk to you about today is the solution that I’ve got to and the solution that a lot of coaches have come to with using the ATG for Coaches support system for their education but there's also a lot more to it.
So I’m going to explain a bit more about that.
My journey with strength started as a skinny kid wanting to be better at sports.
My father was an elite sporting coach, he was working with top athletes, and professional sports in Australia and he told me “well you'll never be fast but you can have great endurance if you work hard on your endurance”.
So from an early age, I had limiting beliefs about what I was capable of athletically but for whatever reason, I persisted with wanting to become an Olympian and become an elite athlete.
As I started to strength train and I learned how to lift and became one of the strongest athletes, I also became one of the fastest, and that helped me to get to better and better teams but what I realized is that I actually loved coaching athletes more than I was interested in my own personal ambitions as an athlete.
So I worked with some junior rugby teams and ended up working in professional rugby league.
Already by the age of 21 22 I was running the strength program at the London Broncos and I was the assistant there but for one reason or another in season, I ended up running the program and I really enjoyed that side of strength development.
Now I went on a different journey for a number of years to try and understand a bit more about how the world works.
I lived in Latin America and out in the middle of Australia and that was a tough journey.
It is really tough to work out exactly why we live in the world the way that it is but at 27 I went back to the world of strength and worked with the Catalan Dragons in France.
So I had the chance to work with the team who'd come last year before, they were ready for change and I implemented a strength system and we got better.
I knew I was doing some good things but I also knew we didn't really have all the answers and I was always reading more books and trying things and experimenting and doing tests on myself.
I went and did some education with Charles Poliquin, the Poliquin system.
I studied their PICP one and two and Biosignature and traveled to events and I met great coaches who I’m still friends with today and still learn from and stay in contact with and
that was probably one of the most important moves that I made was to connect with other coaches who really wanted to be world leaders and a number of those guys have world records and they've coached world-record athletes.
From that team, we had some real success there in France and we made the playoffs in the first year.
We held down the first position for a number of weeks during the second year and the head coach was headhunted and given a contract back in Australia and I chose to apply to go with him.
So I worked, and we went back to a team in Australia that hadn't had a great year, the year before they'd come 13th and they were also ready for change.
It was a rookie coach and we weren't really expected to do very well we weren't tipped to make the playoffs.
Now I went into that team and I still knew that I didn't really know.
I was thinking about going in with a really Poliquin-influenced approach.
I ended up doing a lot of Westside influence training and long story short we trained very hard we got a lot stronger and we ended up winning the competition that year.
We won the regular season. We won the grand final. We won the world club challenge.
We set an all-time record for zero teams held to zero so an all-time defensive record.
We won the club championship.
So everything that could be won that year and we won it was a record-setting season.
So from that point, I knew that “okay something that's happening here is good” but I wanted to transfer and take it out to the world.
So I was working on training systems that the everyday person could take to the gym and principles that could be taught to anyone so it wasn't just the elite athletes that I was working with that would be able to get the benefit by how do we actually make an impact across society, across humanity.
Almost every person and definitely guys at some stage have wanted to be really strong
and to have an athletic body and to have a strong physique that they can be proud of.
I think that is one of the most important things that you can have.
We live in this time of metabolic disease.
All sorts of challenges.
When you get strong the chances of having a lot of those different issues become a lot less.
We're not going to go into all the science of health today but I knew that the solutions were out there and what we needed to do was to educate coaches to then be able to have a bigger impact across the whole of society.
So from 2014, I started to run my own business.
I called it Real Movement Project and I traveled the world running seminars.
I gave seminars in a dozen countries also a lot of two-day events and four-day events and some of the best experiences of my life.
Now in 2018, I came across Ben Patrick, knees over toes guy, and I said “you're onto something here, you've solved something that I’ve been looking for for a long time” because all that time, even with the results that I had with myself and with athletes, I knew that we were missing something, I knew that I didn't know.
And when I saw what Ben was doing and I saw the results that he was getting, I said “this is it, this is what I’ve been looking for” and it's the details and the sequencing and the things that you can't really pick up just from watching the way Ben's training on Instagram, that really makes all the difference and on my Youtube channel, I’ve done my best to break down some of those factors.
Now my goal having researched this stuff for so long and finally for myself being able to train without pain in my knees and be able to get back to sprinting and enjoying the gym.
I want everybody to experience this and you've probably seen Ben's story, all those surgeries that he had and not being able to play the game that he loved.
We want to do something about that.
Now that is why ATG exists and ATG for coaches is because I would like to see other coaches have the power to make an impact in the way that Ben has and it's impacted me and now lots of other coaches around the world are understanding this system and applying it to the people that they have the opportunity to work with.
It's being applied with professional athletes, elderly people, a lot of youth athletes and everyday joes, CrossFitters, powerlifters, strongman, anyone you can think of they've been people from that genre of lifting or walk of life who've been using this program.
We have a lot of coaches who are relatively beginners, new, they started their coaching career with ATG.
We also have guys that have been in the industry for decades like myself who've just realized this is a better way of doing things and more coaches need to know about this, and more gym goers need to know about this.
So the ATG system gives you so much more power and authority in what you want to achieve.
You have a better understanding of why training does what it does and because you have that deeper understanding of why the training is doing what it's doing, you can tailor it and customize it to get the results that you want.
For the longest time in my career even when I was having that success with professional athletes, I knew I didn't know.
If guys had sore knees, if they had sore backs if they had different issues, I sort of knew some things to do and you try this exercise and I heard this guy tried that exercise and it worked but I didn't have these underlying principles of “this is exactly what needs to happen physiologically and this is how I’m going to take them from where they are now and to the position that they want to be”.
So I want you to have that level of confidence that whatever challenges are in front of you, you're going to be able to work on them.
The cool thing is if you're not too sure or if things aren't going as you would like them to go we have the pulse of ATG, a telegram group where you can ask a question anytime, you can tag me, tag Ben, tag other leading coaches in the community and you'll have your questions answered and that thing runs hot 24 hours a day
seven days a week coaches are in there getting the support that they need.
I don't know any other program that offers that level of support to the coaches that they work with.
Also within the ATG for Coaches program, you get to see and experience for yourself all of the programs.
So all the programs that Ben has done over the years even some of the ones that are no longer available publicly or to members of his program and you can see and experience those programs for yourself and take what you need out of those programs to develop what you want to do.
So, yes there are templates and some coaches work directly off the templates and that's fine.
Other coaches will also study the principles and apply that to the situation that they're in with junior athletes or with off-season or with whatever's going on in that specific situation of their gym, if it's a CrossFit gym, everyone can and should use the ATG principles in different ways.
So there's no dogma around. No, this is the way it has to be done on this.
There's only one way to do this.
Every day in the community people are posting different suggestions around exercises and asking for the opinion of other coaches about “okay what do you think would happen if I did it this way?”.
That's the kind of community that we want and it's a great thing to be a part of.
We're seeing a lot of coaches really grow their businesses because they have more confidence and we're finding that coaches get more joy out of being active in social media because they feel that purpose of “yeah like we're here to make an impact, we're here to change the world”.
The reason that I’m getting… these people are posting with purpose and they feel and they get some joy and satisfaction as well as building a business.
They know that they're educating people and getting support from other coaches to build their own individual brands.
Ben said it in one of the videos way back, “I’ve never felt alone again since I’ve been involved with the coaches communities that I have developed” and I like that feeling for all coaches it can be a really tough world and a lonely world but when you have other coaches to bounce ideas off and to stay motivated with and who care about you progressing with your own training as well as getting results with the people that you're working with,
coaching can be a lot more enjoyable.
So you have quality people with massive experience on your team.
There are all sorts of different gyms, different styles of gyms that are part of this community, there are physical therapists, there are researchers, there are guys going for their PhDs, there are guys working in professional sports.
So whichever focus you have there are going to be like-minded individuals who are going to help you towards where you really want to go.
What else comes along with being part of it or how does it work financially?
So it's a hundred dollars a month to join the program.
So rather making it a five thousand dollar or ten thousand dollar program.
I invested tens of thousands of dollars in my strength coach education alone not even mentioning the other courses and things that I’ve done over the years.
This course is only a hundred dollars, well actually it's only fifty dollars at the moment to get started for your first month so anyone can get started.
Anyone can get in and have a look.
There's no financial barrier to entry like there is with a university or a lot of other programs that you might do where it's thousands of dollars to get started.
Now if you continue to use the program, if you continue to be educated and follow the programs and ask questions and come to events then yeah it's one thousand two hundred dollars a year to stay active in the program.
If there comes a time where you're not using the service anymore and you don't want to come to the events, you don't need the support, or you're not following the programs then you can end your commitment with us.
So it's really a user pays system which I think is much fairer than other systems.
Now anyone can run the business the way that they want to but we've deliberately made it very accessible and extremely affordable
So if you come in and you don't have many clients you're not really making much money then you really only need to have a few hundred dollars to be able to get started, get learning, and get confidence.
Ask for ideas around getting your business started, getting it growing, support with your social media, connect with other coaches who are having success, and then as you start to be paid as a coach the hundred dollars a month or 25 dollars a week becomes a very very insignificant investment for the support that you're getting.
There's an event coming up in Florida, there was an event in Sacramento, Los Angeles in California not too long ago.
So these events have been made available free to coaches who are part of the network.
So we do plan to do a lot more events at the moment.
Events are still problematic in some places due to the circumstances of the world but we do plan to run more events and coaches are catching up and connecting with other coaches and sharing their knowledge and information but those events have been included in the investment that people are making so far.
So from that side of things, it's a really powerful investment and value for money.
Based on my experience of doing lots of different courses and what you generally get in return for those courses.
You generally don't get any programming, often you don't get any events, it's just purely online, and often there's no interest in whether your business succeeds or fails.
We are talking about that, we are supporting that there are education calls and you can connect with people who are doing well in business, whether it's online business or running a gym, or working out of your garage.
There are all sorts of business models within our community and coaches are getting support with that.
One of the other really exciting things is the ATG app.
Coaches will soon have access to the ATG app and coaches who've achieved their level one, two, or three will be featured in the app.
So someone can just click on your name, and your location and find you.
So if you were to find one client through ATG for coaches it would more than pay for your subscription.
Most coaches charge more than 25 a week even if they're doing a single session or group training.
So if you were to get one client directly through ATG then the course would have already paid for itself.
There aren't many courses out there or programs out there that potentially have the reach of ATG.
Not too many guys are getting invited onto Joe Rogan and not too many systems of training are expanding at the rate that ATG is.
So this time last year Ben had around 100,000 followers and now he has a million followers and so Ben's expanding reach, he wants coaches in this network to do well.
So if you come in and you progress through the education, you come to events, you do the programs, you do the learning then there is a real possibility an opportunity for you to form a career around being an ATG coach.
Now in the year 2000 there was no demand anywhere for a CrossFit coach or a CrossFit box, by 2010 there were many thousands of them, I think they got up to around about 14,000 gyms worldwide, where people wanted to go into a CrossFit gym and get a training session of CrossFit.
Now that was despite CrossFit being available online.
Crossfit.com always had its workouts there and then lots of other people were
publishing their daily workouts, the workout for their gyms.
Now even with that online business being there online still those 14,000 CrossFit boxes existed.
So in my mind, I can't say that they're going to be 14,000 ATG gyms but I can say that we get people asking from all around the world “is there a coach in my city that I can go and see?”.
Most of the time at the moment the answer is no because this system is quite new and often coaches want to see something have a really big reputation before they kind of get behind it but yeah the rate that this is growing, if it makes sense to you as far as training system goes then it could also be a huge opportunity, a business-wise.
Ben is yeah looking to support the top coaches in the community and the coaches who get their level.
So level one within ATG for Coaches is about you demonstrating your form, and your ability to execute the movement.
So it's not a very high barrier to entry.
In saying that most coaches don't currently have the ability to execute the ATG movements and that's simply because we haven't practiced them, because coaches haven't been instructed to move in this way and most gym goers don't do the ATG movements.
So it does take a little bit of time.
There's also a minimum of being in the program for three months before you can become a level one coach.
So level one revolves around form and there's a multiple-choice test that goes with it.
The test is not to try and make things difficult for you, it's to encourage you to really understand the system and to be able to apply the ATG system for yourself.
Now level two requires a higher level of achievement.
So to get level two, you need to either bring new knowledge, case studies, and things that add value to the community forward or you need to achieve elite movement standards or you need to attend one of the live events, the weekend training event.
At the moment they're with Ben Patrick and also Ben Clarfield, who's one of the leading coaches in the community and the first level three coach.
Level three is by invitation and it's coaches who want to make a bigger contribution to the community, who've achieved that level two standard, and high-level coaches and want to make an impact on the other coaches within the community.
So they're guys who've already worked with professional athletes or run really successful gyms and have their own programs that are doing really well.
So at the moment, Ben Clarfield is the first level three coach.
We have Graham Tuttle as well who's going down to spend time with Ben.
So part of level three is that you spend a week training alongside Ben, creating content, and sharing your wisdom with the community.
So Graham Tuttle had about a thousand followers when he started working with us.
He had a gym that was doing okay.
Now he has a full gym. He has nearly 60,000 followers and he has a really successful online program.
These are the success stories that we want to see from guys who lead the community, sort of at that level three standard.
So that's how the ATG for Coaches program works at the moment.
If you have any questions then please reach out.
Ultimately what we want to see is that coaches are able to get results that they couldn't get before.
After 20 years myself of studying training and training myself, I know that ATG has had a huge impact on the way I train and the way I train people, and my understanding of the human body.
I’ve read lots and lots of books. I can speak about lots of different training systems.
I love it all. I love all the different styles of strength training and I’m a student of the game of strength and I would say that for me ATG has made the biggest impact.
That is the reason why I left my other brand to work with ATG for Coaches.
If it works like that for you and if you really want to make an impact on the way people move, if you want to help people get out of pain and into athleticism, then this is potentially a fast track to that in a way that you can have more of that impact and feel supported through that.
We're not going to stop you from doing CrossFit or sprint training or strongman or powerlifting or anything else that you might be doing.
Coaches come from all different sorts of backgrounds and we expect people to continue to do their sports and to bring knowledge from other systems.
This is not a dogmatic approach. You can bring any ideas forward and you'll see the system continually evolving if you're part of it.
So ultimately, I think we can really make a difference to the way the world trains and the number of people who need to have joints replaced and feel as though they can't really use their bodies and play with their children, play with their grandchildren.
I think we can make an impact on that and that's what we're here for.
We're not trying to overcomplicate training.
One of the things that for me and for a lot of coaches who've joined this community, is the simplicity of the system is really a huge benefit of being a part of it.
So there's less movements, there's less complexity and it's just simpler to know how to get
results with people.
We have checklists and we have a system of thinking and a way of doing things and when those standards are met, when the checklist is ticked off, things tend to get a lot better and if they don't, we're all open to discussing what other possibilities and alternatives could be applied.
But more often than not coaches realize it doesn't have to be so complicated.
You can have a lot more confidence in what you're doing and just get results.
If you ultimately get the best results then you'll always be in demand.
I had that experience working with professional sports and I now have that experience working with what I think is the best coach education program and the best program that a coach can learn, who's interested in the human body being expressed in the way it's meant to be expressed.
It's the first strength training system that I’ve found that restores childlike, youthful resilience and abilities at the same time as powering up the system.
So you improve the physics of force output, the amount of force you can produce, and how quickly you can produce that force but at the same time, you return the tissues to their youthful length and resilience.
So we have a lot of guys who've had their first dunks in their 30s.
We have guys who've had their first dunks of their life in their 40s.
It works for dunking in the same way that it works for powerlifting and we have a coach in the community who is gunning for powerlifting, and world records.
We have a coach who has two world record holders in the women's junior weightlifting, he's been applying these methods and he got a small improvement in performance.
Now a small improvement in performance, when you're a weightlifter, means going from being national standard to being world champion.
So these are the results we want to see for you and for the people that you're coaching.
It's cool to know that there's coaches in this community who are working with those world-record athletes.
Ben has worked with NBA players, NFL players, wrestlers, and actors.
He doesn't post about a lot of the high-profile people that he is working with but he has worked with a lot of those guys.
I’ve worked with some of the highest-profile athletes in Australia and work with these top
teams.
We also have coaches who are going for world records themselves.
We have Tom Hunt who just broke the world record for the 24-hour pack march and Torben Keller went for the 48-hour reverse treadmill record.
There are a lot of guys in this community with ambition who are pushing hard, there are also women coaches.
So whatever your goals are, whether you want to work with higher level athletes or you want to work with the elderly, we also have coaches saying they're really excited about their new 70-year-old client who's now able to jog again or they're able to drag a heavy sled.
This is probably the most eclectic and broad program in terms of being able to apply it with the highest level athletes and also being able to apply it with those who've lost a lot of physical function.
If it makes sense to you then it's a very low risk and low barrier to entry to get started and I think once you get started, once you experience the programs for yourself, once you experience the coaching community and support for yourself.
We also have a number of live weekly calls which I didn't mention but you can get on together with me and with other coaches and have discussions, have dialogue get the support that you need as much as you need it to get yourself to the next level.
So this is ATG for Coaches, I hope that makes sense and if you would like to get started then you can go to ATGforcoaches.com and click the get started button.
There's a code if you'd like 50% off your first month, you can go to my Instagram ATGMentor and you'll see the code there for 50 off for your first month.
