Pull-up strength is a great test of upper body strength which usually has a good correlation with acceleration. Dan John often talks about this as a direct correlation and Dan John is rarely far from the truth.
Today Sam and I went up to a 1rm before the team session. 55kg was tough but ok. 60 was a borderline lift. Here’s how it looked.
For me this represents 75% of body weight at the moment. I would love to get to 175% of body weight on the bench press! I did 8×3 @90kg on bench press and 8×1 @100 kg after that greasing the groove towards that goal!
How was your training today? If you’re training for sports don’t be afraid to load up the weights and test yourself. Lifting weights with reasonable technique and progression is safer than most other sports!
It wasn’t really a challenge between Sam and I but it is just about the only movement where my working weight compares to Sam’s!
