Fractal Time – Gregg Braden Book Review

Firstly I’d like to say this is an uplifting challenging book that is part of the solution to the problems of our age! I hope you get something out of my review and go on to explore it!

Fractal time by Gregg Braden brings together a lot of ideas that have been floating around in my head for years without certainty or clarity. During my time in indigenous communities and my search for the truth about everything I’ve slowly come to believe that we are truly on a spiritual journey and as such shouldn’t have a sole focus on material success nor should the fight for undoing material injustices be my focus since material success or deprivation has little to do with our reason for being.

Greg puts this knowledge into the context of ancient cultures who spent hundreds of thousands of hours creating timeless constructions which teach us about the true nature of our existence.

The key premise of the book is to describe from the perspectives of many different cultures including the Maya, Vedic culture, the Jewish Torah, Nostradamus, the Incas, Zodiac, and Ancient Egypt as well as the Hopi culture from the region now called Arizona. He explains that lots of different cultures believed that 2012 or more generally the 20th and 21st centuries would be a time of chaos and division. For example within the Zodiac system, the age of Pisces which is two fish swimming in opposite directions is described as a time of division and materialism which will be followed by the age of Aquarius which involves a holistic view of mind, body, and spirit.

If you look around it seems clear that these prophecies that cultures have gone to great lengths to explain to us are true for our time. It is becoming clearer by the day that we need a change of philosophy and to adopt a new harmonious way of coexisting with each other and our universe.

Interestingly Fractal Time explains the power of magnetic fields and their ability to influence how stuck in our ways we are or indeed how open to change we can become. He explains new research that says our heart speaks to our environment. This is true for my experience with the Tzotzil people, Mayan descendants who talk about the feeling of their hearts on a daily basis (they greet each other by saying “how is your heart?”). Quantum physics has confirmed the ancient belief that the universe is made up solely of energy not matter. If you bring these two concepts together you have the human heart sending energy waves to everything that surrounds us determining the fate of our planet.

This path has been clearly laid out for us by our preceding cultures and succinctly explained by Braden. Many people including myself have come to believe that the solution to the problems of our day and to indeed create heaven on earth is to collectively radiate from our hearts beliefs of love and safety. If these energies flow through and from enough people's bodies then they will influence nature and even those around them that have yet to arrive at the same belief system.

The challenge for me and everyone who wishes to continue to the path of spiritual ascension is to take this information and truly make it part of our daily existence, not just a concept taught to us in an intellectual way. It must become deep knowledge.

Living in fear (which is programmed into our subconscious minds and perpetuated by pop culture and media) and sending that message of fear and uncertainty to all that surrounds us is the path to chaos and destruction but one which will be avoided.

Bits of the book that caught my attention:
  • Everything occurs in cycles which means opportunities for events to be predicted if we know the seed event. Whether the event occurs or not depends on our thoughts and actions at the time when the conditions are created. Fractal Time presents lots of examples of how this happens and how to calculate when the conditions are ripe using phi.

  • phi and Phi are gods chosen ratios that are found in many beings and natural cycles. This is the essence of the Fibonacci number spoken about in the Da Vinci code explored by inventors like Leonardo da Vinci. phi – 0.681 is the ration that we find in well-proportioned faces and bodies as well as animal shells, flowers, and even planetary orbits.

  • The prophecies of the Hopi, Vedic, Mayan, and Nostradamus spoke about future events in detail impossible to obtain according to mainstream beliefs about time and reality.

  • Reality only exists where we create a focus – Buddhist thought

  • Ancients knew something which we have forgotten – Albert Einstein

  • The universe exists as great waves of energy that repeat as cycles of time – Mayas

  • The TORAH which is the unaltered version of the old testament contains many secret codes which have been impossible to decipher until recently. The codes point to difficult times ahead.

  • The Hopi talk about excess and comfort and greed as being the flaws of our age that must be overcome. I found it interesting that comfort was one of the keys. Many ancient cultures included a degree of discomfort and sacrifice in their spiritual practice.

  • The Hopi said there was big trouble coming after a man went to the moon and brought something back with him that threw off nature's cycles.

  • The world exists within 5000 – 5772 – 5125 year cycles according to a few different cultures. They all say we’re coming to the end of the current world and that a new cycle is about to begin. The 25 000 year Zodiac is about to restart although there is a big gap between the Pisces and Aquarius ages.

  • The sphinx – half man half lion points at where the Leo star sign would have risen when it was built at the end of the age of Leo. I think the Egyptians were telling us that they really knew their stuff.

  • The Mayans were able to predict the position of the earth in relation to the milk way thousands of years in advance without any of the technology that we need to make these predictions.

  • Kali Yuga is a time of darkness in Vedic culture and it’s the time we’re living through. Within this time we have the bhakti which we are also in which provides an opportunity for change.

  • The world has thawed and overheated many times and experienced different levels of magnetic forces. We’re undergoing a large shift at the moment.

I found the book interesting and will continue to explore the ideas put forward how they relate to our positive future. The more I learn the more I’m sure that diet and exercise aren’t the whole answer even if we’re living locally with organic (permaculture) we need to have a deeper spiritual shift to continue our integration as humans and our co-existence with the planet.
