This is such an important topic Keegan, thank you.
When i lived in the UK over 10 years ago i went through a spell of definitely being very low. my professional journey has taught me that the basics such as nourishing yourself and sleep are crucial. However my life journey has taught me the more important lessons, i hope you don’t mind i am going to go for it here!
Energy and mood are like the radars in our life that tell us information. When we are not happy in life, not doing what we are here to do, not connected to ourselves, our souls, our passions and desires, or when we are surrounded by people that we actually don’t resonate with, or are in the wrong relationships; our emotions (and energy) kick(s) out.
We must stop and FEEL, go totally into this emotion and see what it is telling us, one problem in the fitness industry is that many don’t stop. Many use the crutch of activity to take away the focus from inner feelings that must be acknowledged. The person quite simply becomes afraid to stop. This is separate to using sport and exercise as a very beneficial tool in our lives for joy, focus, fun, release. I am not judging here; i am saying every word here based on my own experience. I was that person “running” and when i stopped boy was i low (and burnt out, miserable and wondering What The Fuck!). So i have spent a lifetime working on myself, learning, challenging, speaking to different people, exploring different avenues, often just out of curiosity and for some other deeper reason it has helped me be a better therapist so i know i was there learning for more than just me.However my biggest ah-ha moments were when i started to learn self belief, and to remove myself from negative people that wanted to pull me back and also i started to accept who i am, just being me…. doing nothing and not calling it lazy but connected to my inner self in those precious tranquil moments. It is in these quiet moments that the magic happens for people; when inspirations, solutions, and visions happen that take you from ordinary to extraordinary. Most geniuses had their most valuable moments when their heads were empty.
If it helps others, then i will say a few more things that resonate more personally which may help people struggling within their heads. Firstly mind, body and soul are connected. you must cherish and nourish them all. Put enough stress on the system and the best of us will start to feel anxious, nervous, irritable and depressed. It is not a weakness, but a symptom… symptoms being a cry from the body for attention, for healing.
Many struggling with low moods may actually be highly empathic, also called the highly sensitive person. Often mood and emotions are then picked up from the environment, locally and even globally. In those that are more open and possibly even psychically aware although not knowledgeable about this even more can be felt or ‘thought’ yet believed to be some sort of crazy head. Not always so; it is scientifically explained that certain more in tune people can even feel and know the thoughts of others. I won’t fry you with my own experiences, but i know very much what this feels like and until i learnt more about it i thought i was a headcase (and it didn’t help that at the time i was working with a lot of mentally unwell people such as manic depressive and schizophrenics). If this is you, you may find places like the tube/ underground, public places that have a lot of negativity, or train stations, bridges and busy motorways very difficult. you may not feel or think like yourself. (Footnote on schizophrenia and other serious mental health conditions; i believe most of these are fully treatable with diet excluding allergens such as gluten, orthomolecular doses of nutrients, herbs, alkaline water and bioresonance once properly diagnosed functionally).
My advice, it is always good to talk, to friends, family, anyone that understands you. and allows you to
just talk,
to get it off your chest and release the emotions. if needs be ask them to shut up and stop trying to solve things, you want to be heard

Therapy also is not something to be stigmatised, i see it as somewhat akin to a car service. If i want to learn, then i speak to the best, if i want to get over for example nerves because i pick up on so much when i am public speaking, then i go to an expert. it makes sense to me to work on my weaknesses, but also i like to learn techniques that can then help others.
Techniques that are helpful include EFT, CBT, heartmath, and energy work. please share if this will help someone.
Thanks Keegan for bringing up this important topic, sorry i wrote such a long epistle. Anxiety and depression are everywhere, our society doesn’t support talking, and healing… only drugs and hiding the problem and feeling shame. this must change…. so folks… let you be the change
