Recently for the first time in my life, I experienced a strange feeling of anxiety I couldn't shake. I think it was related to rapidly adjusting my CO2 levels and taking on an elimination diet at the same time. (Nothing of any emotional significance happened to worsen my mood, life was good during those days.)
I knew that I couldn't live in that state. I finally understand why people resort to medications and drugs to change their state.
That experience is something I never want to repeat and it compelled me to write this article.
It also made me remember how bad I felt mentally through my late teens and on and off through my 20's.
I was lucky to make it through those times.
I really didn't know how to live in the world around me.
Part of that was structural, seeing a lot of things that weren’t right and didn't make sense (now I have more perspective). Part of it was that my brain and gut were all messed up.
I could have been a lot happier and healthier a lot sooner, had I read this article.
I hope it helps you (performance tips not medical advice).
We can all probably remember times of being stuck in negative loops. It's not a good place to be.
Mood and mental state changes the way we see the world.
It alters our perception of people and decisions.
Presence, combined with these skills, can drastically impact one’s results in life.
There are 3 levels we can look at to change state:
1. Energetic- We know that emotions of love and gratitude impact the body, as does anger and hate.
2. Mechanical- Posture directly impacts hormones and mood. You can see this in the animal kingdom as well as in soldiers and slumping posture.
3. Chemical-
(i) Testosterone / Cortisol ratio massively impacts decision making;
(ii) Dopamine desensitisation can occur through drugs, gaming and social media;
(iii) Taking a massive CO2 hit to the blood can cause instant, EXTREME anxiety;
(iv) Massive release from the pineal gland is possible with ancient breathing techniques.
The 3 overlap and intermingle but still the categories can help.
What can we do about it?
1. Posture
Sit up straight with a little smile and relax un-needed tension. Place the tongue on the roof of the mouth and deliberately breathe a little more shallow from the abdomen.
2. Wim Hof Breathing
This creates a huge change in brain chemistry and illustrates the point fully.
Check in the breath section for more about how breath can impact your state.

3. Fill Nutrient Gaps & Remove Offending Toxins
There are many cases of overcoming chronic depression via the carnivore elimination diet. Dr Georgia Ede does the best job of explaining it. Jordan and Mikhaila Peterson are the most well known cases.

4. Laughter
This makes sense but I'm not in the habit of using it.

5. Time In Nature
Hike, swim in the ocean etc.
6. Other Processes I like
